About

Casual, Collected and Curated

Laura Zender Design is a full-service Interior Design firm specializing in luxury residential and commercial design in Michigan and beyond. Whether working on a full scale new construction home, or just a grand one-room makeover, I bring a casual, collected and curated approach to every design project I tackle. I consider my role more guide than guru, leading my clients to the choices for their spaces that will ultimately feel just like home.

Unique Spaces Every Time

The best outcomes always begin with my clients’ most treasured pieces, followed by careful planning for hand-selected new items, and finishing with an experienced eye for editing culminating in looks that are fundamentally refined but comfortable and every bit a reflection of my clients’ tastes and passions. This formula leads to unique spaces every time, with the distinct style of each client the shining star in the end.

Mix Master

I think the most interesting rooms look like they have been lovingly tended to over time. My interiors always contain a mix of old and new furnishings, an abundance of colors and textures, and elements from many eras. I like warm, art-filled spaces that are just a bit eclectic as they always tell the stories of my clients’ life journeys while leaving plenty of room for what lies ahead. My goals are to learn what makes my clients’ tick, to expertly guide them through the design processes along the way, and to deliver rooms that will make their hearts sing.

Navigated by Life’s Journeys

I grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan and received a BS Degree from the University of Michigan. Upon graduating I made my way to Chicago, IL where I completed my post graduate degree in Interior Design from the Harrington Institute of Interior Design. In 2010 I relocated back to my hometown with my husband and two children and opened my practice in Ann Arbor in 2013. I am an allied member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and an honored recipient of nine Detroit Design Awards since 2015 from Detroit Design magazine.
